A substitute school nurse has been charged for stealing students’ medication at elementary schools in the Cornwall-Lebanon School District.

Abigail Deen-Ketner, 36, of 2095 Millard Lane, was charged with theft by unlawful taking on July 15 after admitting to South Lebanon Township police that she stole Adderall and Ritalin prescribed to students. The medication, used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, was kept in the nurse’s office at Union Canal and South Lebanon elementary schools where she worked as a substitute nurse from May 4 to May 12, police said.

The investigation began on May 16 after four full-time school nurses expressed concerns to administrators about questions Deen-Ketner was asking, such as whether the nurse offices had security cameras and how she could gain access to the medication carts, according to the criminal complaint.

Those concerns prompted an inventory of medications at the two schools, which determined that Ritalin and Adderall pills, liquids and salts were missing.

When questioned by police, Deen-Ketner admitted she had taken a total of about 20 pills from the schools, although she denied stealing any liquids or salts, according to the criminal complaint.

Deen-Ketner told police she had been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder and Dyslexia in her 20s, and she took the pills to help her deal with learning the new job. Ketner said she sometimes ingested them while working and driving between the schools.
