A licensed practical nurse from Scott County is in custody on suspicion of embezzling opioids, officials said.
R. Coonce Hill, who works at a health care facility in Scott County, is suspected of embezzling more than 5,000 dosage units of an opiate painkiller called Norco, according to Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Director John Dowdy.
Hill is charged with obtaining a controlled substance by embezzlement, a felony.
“Nurse Hill’s arrest shows law enforcement’s continuing commitment to halting medical professionals’ abuse of a sacred trust to do no harm,” Dowdy said.
The investigation into Hill, with assistance from the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, took around a month.
Hill was booked into the Scott County Jail and held pending an initial appearance.
