SOUTH HAVEN, MI — A South Haven doctor is on administrative leave after his office was searched Thursday, Feb. 1 as part of a drug investigation.
A search warrant was executed by detectives from the Southwest Enforcement Team, Drug Enforcement Administration, MSP Computer Crimes Unit and IRS about 9:30 a.m. at Bronson South Haven Family Medicine, according to a news release.
Documents, including some patient records, were seized during the search warrant to assist in the ongoing investigation.
SWET has not named any persons involved. However, Bronson Healthcare said in a statement Dr. Matthew Small is on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Police said an initial investigation indicated normal prescription practices involving scheduled narcotics were possibly not being followed. However, no formal complaints have been filed against Small, according to his state license page.
After a lengthy investigation, information was presented to a Van Buren County District Court Judge and the search warrant for additional investigative material was issued.
The documents seized Thursday are currently under review by the DEA Drug Diversion Unit and SWET detectives. No criminal charges have been sought at this point, as the investigation is ongoing.
Bronson Healthcare said in its statement the South Haven Family Medicine at 965 S. Bailey Ave. has been fully cooperating with the investigation.
