A Yarmouth Port woman pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Barnstable District Court to charges she stole controlled drugs from a veterinary clinic while employed there as a vet tech.
K. Carron, 49, was charged with five counts of larceny of a drug, according to court documents. She was released on her own recognizance and ordered to stay away from her former place of employment.
In March, a Yarmouth police detective met with staff at Veterinary Associates of Cape Cod. Surveillance footage taken Feb. 13 showed Carron accessing the facility’s locked safe without authorization and stealing drugs, according to the police report.
Police viewed the footage, which shows Carron taking the key for the safe from another lock box and removing multiple vials of drugs and a pill bottle from the safe, the report says.
Carron was confronted and fired after the footage was discovered, according to the report.
An audit of controlled drugs kept at the facility that was presented to police showed that 9.36 ml of Buprenex, 11.45 ml of methadone, 35 Tussigon tablets, 1.57 ml of midazolam and 2.13 ml of ketamine had been stolen, the report says. A doctor at the facility also told police that several prescriptions had also been written for Carron’s dog.
Carron is due back in court Aug. 1 for a probable cause hearing.
