DEA alleges nurse practitioner wrote prescriptions for dead patients

Andrei Marchenko no longer writing prescriptions amid investigation

The Drug Enforcement Administration is investigating Andrei Marchenko, a certified nurse practitioner at the Medicus Family Practice Clinic.

According to a search warrant filed in federal court, at least seven of Marchenko’s patients died from a drug overdose days after he issued their prescriptions.

The DEA alleges Marchenko often increased dosages for pain medication when there was no medical need for many of his patients to be on them in the first place.

The documents claim Marchenko wrote prescriptions for people while they were in jail, rehab, and even some patients who were already dead.

The documents allege Marchenko’s patients displayed “pill-seeking behavior,” and some of the patients who obtained prescriptions at his clinic later sold them on the streets.
