A local pharmacy technician is behind bars for allegedly stealing narcotics from the pharmacy chain where she worked at.
The investigation involved the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team and began in late June.
Authorities learned that a pharmacy tech was possibly stealing opiate-based pain medications such as Oxycontin and identified L. M. Douthit, 42, of Long County as a suspect.
CNT says Douthit stole more than 600 prescription pills, all schedule II controlled substances, from a Richmond Hill store and at least 100 more from a sister store in Savannah.
Investigators believe all of the thefts happened between May and June of this year.
Douthit was arrested Tuesday at her home in Long County and is currently being held in the Chatham County Detention Center.
She faces multiple felony drug and theft charges in Chatham and Bryan counties.
Douthit has since been fired and voluntarily surrendered her license to the Georgia Bureau of Narcotics.
